OCG-Wind – our preferred technology
Archer Wind was established in 2021 as an independent technology, product, and solutions provider for the Floating Offshore Wind industry. Simultaneously the company announced a major investment in Ocergy Inc. (Ocergy), together with Chevron Technology Ventures, supplemented by a Cooperation Agreement that sets a strong foundation for executing commercial-scale projects. This partnership integrates one of the most promising floating foundation technologies in the world with the strong engineering, project management, fabrication and assembly knowledge and leadership to develop a fully industrialized supply chain to serve offshore wind farm developments worldwide.
Ocergy is a design and technology company providing sustainable offshore solutions through the OCG-Wind design, a Floating Wind foundation technology. OCG-Wind is a competitive semi-submersible hull designed with robust industrialization processes and tailored for the next generation of large offshore turbines. The innovative hull joins the 4 interconnected columns using trusses and pre-tensioned tendons. The tensegrity structure is designed to be lightweight, a necessity to reduce the levelized cost of energy (LCOE).
OCG-Wind further incorporates an innovative trim and ballast system that ensures a very low draft when along quayside and keeps the platform level during operation thus improving the turbine energy yield. Archer Wind has built upon the design’s ease of industrialization bringing flexibility into fabrication as the foundation is modular and allows structural parts to be manufactured on parallel fabrication lines or different factories, before being shipped to the marshalling port for final assembly. This solution also increases the use of a local supply chain in the project fabrication life cycle – key for Archer Wind’s offering. Many of the technologies implemented in OCG-Wind are already well known from the oil and gas industry but applied in a new and innovative way.
Archer Wind has since inception in 2021 executed a number of study contracts, pre-FEEDs and FEEDs for blue-chip developers of offshore wind farms. On the back of the Cooperation Agreement and interlinked engineering teams, in addition to the developers’ preferred technology, we have based all of the work on the OCG-Wind design.
